projects
Some things I have done.
Datamob
Datamob is a directory that highlights the connection between public datasets and awesome interfaces that people have created to make public data more accessible—amazing tools like OpenCongress, EveryBlock, and Oakland Crimespotting. Built in Ruby on Rails. April 2008.
Mary McCarthy's NYC
Mary McCarthy's NYC is a custom Google Map based on Mary's Intellectual Memoirs: New York, 1936-1938. My map highlights Mary's awareness of the socio-economic geography of New York and the now-ghostly evocation of a New York City that's barely recognizable less than a century later. August 2007.
M.A. Thesis
"A Proprietary Protocol: How Search Defines Authority Online" is the thesis I wrote to finish my M.A. in English and American Literature from New York University. It's about how search engines shape our perception of authoritativeness on the internet. May 2007.
crafts
I'm an avid knitter and occasional crocheter. Many of my yarn creations are documented in this flickr set and in my ravelry profile. Ongoing.
Mediating Enlightment
Mediating Enlightenment is a painfully simple little site I built for an academic conference organized by my super-cool thesis adviser. December 2006.
