about Lauren Sperber and kenspeckle.net
kenspeckle.net
"Kenspeckle" is an amazingly cool Scottish word meaning conspicuous.
This blog is supposed to be "a humorous, hyperlinked look at language, internet culture, and anything conspicuous," which coincidentally began one fine day in September 2005 with a fabulous etymology of everyone's favorite synonym for conspicuous.
Lauren Sperber
Lauren Hope Sperber is a geeky girl living in New York City. Recently, she's created this site Datamob, written an M.A. thesis on search engines (for a degree ostensibly in English Literature, no less), and done some other things.
Places you can find her online include: del.icio.us, LinkedIn, flickr, etsy, LibraryThing, vimeo, and Facebook.
Lauren was born and raised in St. Petersburg, Florida, where she spent far too much time inside Sunblades Ice Arena and was voted most likely to spontaneously combust by her high school graduating class (an International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme).
She's available for your emailing pleasure at: lauren {~at~} kenspeckle {~dot~} net.
geek notes (last updated 18 July 2007)
For the intensely curious, kenspeckle.net is hosted by bluehost and runs on WordPress. The current design (kenspeckle 2.5) is original by yours truly, but borrows its comment styles, gray tones, and smushed headers from the template that kenspeckle 2.0 was loosely based upon (WP Andreas07 0.2, which is no longer available).
kenspeckle 1.0 ran on blosxom, was hosted by Plan It Host, and was templated completely from scratch.
My new, homebrewed design finally validates as xhtml strict! (With the exception any page holding a Comedy Central video or my Google map of Mary McCarthy's NYC, because strict aggravatingly fails to support iframes.) My css, however, is still suffering due to the opacity properties in lightbox gone wild.
